History

Almost a hundred years ago, the then Lord Edgcumbe had a winter villa looking out over The Sound. When he moved away across the water, he leased the villa’s gardens and the tennis courts to the Stonehouse community. Stonehouse Lawn Tennis Club became a focal point for those fortunate to live on the western edges of Plymouth overlooking The Sound. Six years ago, that lease was generously extended until 2048 and the club’s prospects were transformed. The only condition was that the club offered everyone living nearby the opportunity to enjoy its grounds, gardens and sporting facilities.
